An Unexplained Mysteries Forum-user going by the name ‘Shadow Sentinel’ described a bizarre encounter that they and their girlfriend experienced during a camping trip in the South East part of Texas. Apparently the people in this region have a local legend about a being called the ‘Bagodemon’, which is supposedly a purple-whitish humanoid with glowing red eyes. It can stretch its body, and moves around by sticking its body to trees ‘like gum’.

An Arboreal Aberration[]

Shadow Sentinel posted this story on the 1st of January 2006, and said that they had this experience roughly four months previously. They were out hiking with their girlfriend at around 23:00, and they kept hearing noises which sounded like ‘a mix of a pig/weeping dog a few yards away’. However, it would soon become apparent that the source of the noise was far closer than this optimistic estimate. They continued walking for a few feet before ‘a crud load’ of leaves fell down from the trees above them, and Shadow Sentinel shone their flashlight upwards to see what was causing the ruckus. They initially thought it was a bird or a squirrel or something, but as soon as the light hit it they instead came to the conclusion that it was the legendary Bagodemon. The monster screeched so loud that Shadow Sentinel almost fell to their knees, and their girlfriend fainted a few seconds later. They say that they’ll never get that noise out of their head. ‘It sounded like so many animals at once screaming in fear or anger’.

Bagodemon in Action

A mediocre photoshop depiction by yours truly!

After screeching for what Shadow Sentinel took to be 15 seconds, the Bagodemon ‘made a noise as if it was chuckling’ at the witnesses beneath it before propelling one of its arms to a nearby tree and leaving. Shadow Sentinel describes the creature that they saw as having a body-shape akin to a human male, totally devoid of hair with a ‘pulsating red glow’ on its forehead instead of any sort of discernible face. Bizarrely, it also had scythe-like structures instead of hands.

Analysis[]

I am not certain if this account should be taken seriously. Weirder things have been reported in the paranormal field, but the so-called local legend of the Bagodemon is not documented anywhere else except Shadow Sentinel’s own forum post. They also seem to think that this description matches pretty well with that of a Skin-Walker, but to be honest the Bagodemon is the least Skin-Walkery creature I’ve ever heard of…
