Starting in 1981, the area around Mineral Point in Wisonsin has been terrorised by a bizarre humanoid figure closely matching the description of the Victorian fiend known as 'Spring-Heeled Jack'. Of course such a folkloric figure was not on the minds of the witnesses, and so it was arguably-erroneously identified as a vampire instead due to the black cloak that it appears to wear.
1981[]
The police responded to reports of a character dressed like a vampire lurking in the Graceland cemetery on the evening of March 14th, 1981. At the cemetery, a lone officer encountered a tall, thin, pale-faced figure dressed in black and clad in a cape. The figure suddenly bolted away, and the officer gave chase – but this pursuit promptly ended when the pale man lept over a six-foot fence at the border of the cemetery. The next morning, the police returned to the cemetery to follow the tracks that the ‘vampire’ had made in the snow, but the footprints simply stopped at the point where the anomalous entity had jumped the fence. There was nothing on the other side except untouched snow.
2004[]
The tale of the Mineral Point Vampire was far from over, however, as the police had to respond to a series of reports made in 2004 detailing a man sitting in a tree outside of an apartment complex. When they arrived, an ominously familiar darkly-clad man lept from the tree and fled. The police attempted to pursue the suspect, but quickly lost sight of the man. Although there were footprints like in the 1981 case, they ended at a ten-foot concrete wall.
2008[]
Finally, a young couple was fishing off a pier at the nearby Ludden Lake in 2008, when they heard noises coming from beneath the pier – directly underneath their feet. Something was apparently climbing out of the water. The couple assumed that it was an animal of some description, and so shone a flashlight between the boards of the pier to get a better look. However, there was the stark-white face of a man staring back at them. The couple promptly fled towards their car, pursued by the vampire – which moved at an unusually great speed. As the two witnesses drove away, they could see a tall, darkly-dressed figure with a cape running towards them. Two police patrol units went to the pier, and found only the couple’s abandoned fishing gear.
